Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Is Dance Renaissance for dancers only?

Absolutely not. Everyone is welcome to the parties, dancer and non-dancer. Our parties are PARTIES! Dress up, put on on your best smile and come enjoy the live bands! You will also get to watch some performances.  Our attendees are extremely welcoming and will be happy to swirl with you around the dance floor.

For the workshops, we have created, there are all level classes.

SINGLES welcome too: this event is for everyone: young or old, singles or couples, non-dancers to pros.

TICKETS and REGISTRATION
Your name will be at the door. You will not receive a ticket by mail. If you signed up friends and family, the tickets will be under your name, unless you already provided their names at info@dancerenaissance.com.

CHILDREN
Kids are allowed to attend the parties and the workshops. If you have children under 12 years old, they get in for free. Children must be accompanied by a parent. The only exception is to get in the clubs on Frenchmen street. For those. you must be 21 to get in.


2. What is the dress code?

Each party has a theme. We expect you to dress appropriately. However, we won’t throw you out if you don’t.  Just get in the spirit of New Orleans and join!

1. Friday New Year’s Eve Party: Masquerade Ball. Bring your mask and dress up. Cocktail dress, be classy!

2. Saturday dance: Vintage Dance: dress vintage (1910s-1920s-30s-40s) or anything you would wear for a costume party, i.e. Mardi Gras, Halloween, etc.

3. Sunday: Frenchmen stroll. Casual attire.

4. Workshops: casual, comfortable, slippery shoes.

Mask: Bring your own to the Masquerade Ball on New Year’s Eve.

3. What type of music will I listen to?

We have a different Live Band every night. All bands are from New Orleans and will play a variety of styles. From Dixieland to Blues, to traditional Jazz, there will be a band and music for all tastes. The key is happy music inspired by New Orleans!


4. What about food/drinks at the workshops?

Bring your bottles of water and some snacks if you think you will need some energy throughout the day. There are water fountains at the reily center on sunday.

Lunch:

Bring your own lunch if you can as lunch breaks are only one hr long. Saturday, few places will be open because it is January 1 so plan accordingly. On Sunday,  you can get something at PJs coffee on McAlister and Willow. They serve sandwiches and drinks. Other restaurants are walking distance (by Claiborne and Calhoun) and will be opened. Their service is normally fast. You will find Subway, Naked pizza, Frostop diner, Felipe’s and more.


5. What about drinks/food during the parties?

For New Year’s Eve, there will be a light MIDNIGHT buffet and an open bar until supply lasts. Feel free to bring your own drinks. We won’t get offended. Complimentary midnight toast.

On Friday and Saturday parties: tap water in water coolers available. Feel free to bring your own bottles of water.
For the Saturday Vintage party, bring your own refreshments. (Some non-alcoholic refreshments will be available.)


6. How can I participate in the dance contests?

  • STRICLY LINDY: (open and advanced): You choose your partner, you choose your level, you sign up. We choose the music. You dance. (Saturday party)
  • STRICTLY BALBOA (open) : You choose your partner, you sign up. We choose the music. You dance. (Saturday party)
  • ANYTHING GOES JACK N JILL: no partner needed. You just need to sign up. (Saturday party)

To sign up for any of the dance contests, email info@dancerenaissance.com indicating:
- Your name
- The competition you wish to enter (and your level if you are entering the strictly lindy)
- Your partner’s name if you are entering a strictly competition.

FREE entry. Trophies and Prizes will be offered for all categories.

Deadline to register for the contests: Competition registration until Thursday, December 31 at midnight.


7. Can I buy tickets at the door?

Tickets for any event or workshop will be available on a CASH only basis (NO CREDIT CARDS OR CHECKS) at the door and on a first come, first serve basis. Prices at the door are as follows:

Full Event Including NYE: $175
NY Masquerade Ball: $75
Vintage Party: $20
One Day workshop: $80 (Sat. or Sun.)
Single workshop: $20/each

8. Level description for the workshops

INTERMEDIATE Lindy and Balboa dancers: You are somewhat comfortable dancing Lindy or Balboa with anyone but you wish to have more vocabulary, learn musicality and increase your ability to dance to faster music.

ADVANCED BALBOA: You are somewhat musical, you can dance fast and you have been dancing for at least 2 years. However you find yourself stuck and no longer improving.

ALL LEVELS: In these tracks (Blues and Balboa), you will work on cleaning basics and fundamentals. You need some partner dance experience.  Whether you have learned Blues or Balboa before doesn’t really matter. It is about learning, re-learning or cleaning up the fundamentals of those dances regardless of your level in that particular dance.
